For more Information on Walk Kansas

Walk Kansas is a team-based program that will help you and others lead a healthier life by being more active, making better nutrition choices, and learning positive ways to deal with stress.

Living a healthier lifestyle doesn’t mean changing everything at once. It’s about understanding the lifestyle choices that are made each day and improving those choices one step at a time.

Links for registration, daily logs, and guides down below.

How does Walk Kansas work?

  • Co-workers, family members, friends and neighbors form teams of six people who will track minutes of physical activity and food choices during the 8-week challenge.

  • The physical activity goal for each team member is 2 ½ hours (150 minutes) a week of activity, which is equal to 10 Walk Kansas miles.

  • Walking isn’t the only activity that counts. You will find a list of activities in the “Be Active Your Way” handout. Walk Kansas goals are based on Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans. To read more about these new activity guidelines go to: http://www.health.gov/paguidelines/factSheetAdults.aspx

  • Participants will also record daily fruit and vegetable consumption.

  • Team members will report progress to their team captain on a weekly basis.

  • You can check progress of your team at www.walkkansas.org. Think of your participation with others as motivation, rather than competition. You are setting personal goals and working to reach those.

How do I register a team?

  1. Gather five other people who agree to motivate and encourage each other.

  2. Choose a team name and agree on who will serve as captain. It is helpful if the team captain has an e-mail address.

  3. Download a copy of the complete Captain’s Packet and team registration form, or request a paper copy from Jo Argabright at the Rawlins County Extension Office.

  4. Gather indivdual registration forms from all team members (including you) and return completed forms, your team registration form, and $8 per person to Jo at the Extension office. Walk Kansas t-shirts are available and can be ordered at the time of registration.

Registration Deadline —March 16th

Please return all forms and payment to Jo at the Extension office at: 406 State St, Atwood KS, 67730.
